Gilgil Constituency

Gilgil Constituency is one of the 11 constituencies of Nakuru County. The constituency was conceived in 2013 from the larger Naivasha Constituency. The current MP for Gilgil Constituency is Hon. Martha Wangari. The constituency has five (5) County Assembly Wards namely, Gilgil Ward, Ebburu/Mbaruk Ward, Elementaita Ward, Murindat Ward and Malewa West Ward. Four of the five wards are in Gilgil Sub-county while Malewa West Ward is in Naivasha Sub-county administratively. According to the 2019 census, Gilgil Administrative Sub-county has an approximate population of 185,209 people with and area of 1,075.4 KM². From the 2017 data, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission put the voting population at 85,340.
The constituency borders the constituencies of Naivasha, Narok North, Njoro, Nakuru Town East, Bahati, Olkalou and Kipipiri. Gilgil town is the constituency headquarters which is traditionally an Adminstrative and military town with two Army Barracks (The Second and Fifth Kenya Rifles), National Youth Service Training Camp and an Anti-stock Theft Headquarters. The town also host some of the best public and private schools notable among them; Utumishi Boys, Utumishi Girls, Koelel High, Coulson Girls, Gilgil Girls and many more totalling to 124 registered public schools at the moment. The key notable features are Lake Elementaita and the adjacent Soysambu Conservancy, Ebburu Forest which is an extension of Mau Forest and many other scenic features that makes it a key tourist destinations with first class hotels notably; Lake Elementaita Mountain Lodge, Jacaranda Lake Elementaita, Sunbird Lodge, Lake Elementaita Nature Pebbles, Morindat Training Centre, Sentrim Elementaita among others. The constituency is largely rural with mixed farming being the main economic activity. Gilgil has hosted many National and International events key among them the World Rally Championships at Soysambu and Sleeping Warrior.
